The past year was recorded as the having the highest land temperatures thus far. The extreme temperatures caused notable damage to land and sea around the world. Recordings of global temperatures began in the late 1800's and 2007 has been recorded the 5th warmest year.
Since 2001, each year has had increased temperatures. This years intense climate caused heat waves throughout Asia, Russia, the Northern hemisphere and the U.S. The heat waves also started over 130 wildfires.
In the U.S. alone the scorching temperatures reached 2,000 new high daily records. This year the oceans were effected having the lowest sea ice level ever in the artic. It was recorded that the oceans temperature were 9th hottest.
Question: Was 2007 just part of a warming phase or is the green house gas emissions taking a toll on the earth's climate? If so, do you expect 2008 to exceed the high temperatures of 2007?

Yes, it does seem to be getting warmer with each passing year. I remember experiencing temperatures below 40 degrees during winter that lasted more than two days at a time, when I was a little girl. I know that the earth is experiencing a global warming, but I am prone to believe it is a cycle the earth will inevitably go through; the ice age didn't destroy the earth, it ushered in a new era. All of the precautions we're taking to secure a better earth (going green, recycling, etc.) has needed to take place for some time, and I am more than happy to do my part. I think it is only going to get warmer, but we will hopefully be able to slow it down a little, securing a cooler world for the next couple of generations to come.
I had not realized the statistics of the warm weather that we had last year. Your post did well at putting it into perspective. Although I have noticed how it seems to get a little warmer every year I do believe, as your first commenter seemed to, that it is just some type of cycle that the earth is going through.
I do believe that 2007 was part of a warming phase, because if it was recorded, then it must be a cycle that the planet is going through. Yes, the year 2008 is going to be even hotter. Every year it seems that it gets hotter and hotter in the summer and colder in the winter.
This year was a very warm year. I am still new to Florida and trying to get adjusted to the weather, coming from Maryland, we got to experience all four seasons each year, so as far as I am concerned, it's always hot in Florida. I did go back to Maryland to visit for about a week in August, and I must say, it was hotter there than it was when I left Florida. Personally, it scares to think that it will be getting hotter and hotter with each passing year.
